respect to baum but no player at the age of 20 who has high expectations should not lose to waldnet. waldner is the best ever but not at the age of 40+. this is the best description of european tt.. persson and waldner at their age compete rather comfortably with european hopes and that it is not good. that only means that europe doesnt have what it takes to take on asian players.
No one said it was any excuse, and Baum lost, rightly so. Not because I don’t like Baum, but that 40 year old man just happens to be the table tennis legend.
The 40+ yo man like you say is the best table tennis player ever, and what made him a legend is that he could read anybody’s game, and this way he didn’t need to move much.
Remember that at 35 yo he was finalist at the OG, and semi-finalist at 39 years, beating even Timo Boll !!
Baum is good, but Waldner is out of his league. Waldner was hitting so softly, and mostly giving Baum smash shots. And he was so calm all the time. I guess to him Baum was just like practice.

Man, Waldner took it easy on him….. if he didn’t, he wouldn’t have played with those lobs.

Waldner thought he lost that last one. Then the ball hits the corner of the table. Waldner”s face: “Oops. Heehee.”
Waldner is amazing.

Still, not an excuse for how poorly he played against a 40+ year old man. The Energie’s not such a big deal though…
